“Joanna Tags” are now available to Georgia motorists and proceeds from the sales fund the mission of the Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation. For only *$35 per year, you can help raise awareness, pro-vide support, and fund research for childhood cancer by purchasing the new “Joanna” Tag. Proceeds fund the mission of the Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation.
The left side of the tag is a unique feature: A silhouette of Joanna Rae McAfee with outstretched arms derived from an actual photograph taken as she celebrated climbing a hill after one of many strenuous rounds of che-motherapy. The family says, “The silhouette is so meaningful because it represents the courage, strength and determination that Joanna exhibited as she fought her battle with childhood cancer. It was so powerful that we chose it as the logo for our foundation.”
So far, about 5000 tags have been sold and the response has been incredible with tags issued in 149 of Georgia's 159 counties.
FAQ:
What does it cost?
There are two costs above and beyond what you currently pay for a tag:
1) A Specialty Tag Manufacturing Fee of $25.
2) A Specialty Tag Renewal Fee of $35 per year.
Why does the DMV site say it’ll cost $90 to get a tag?
Neither the DMV website nor most tag office clerks are clear about how the costs are broken out so that it is easy to distinguish between what you currently pay for a tag vs. the additional costs for a “Joanna Tag”.
Without a specialty tag there is a $20 sticker fee that everyone has to pay on an annual basis in order to renew their tag. The $90 as adverised on the website is inclusive of not only the two costs associated with the “Joanna Tag” ( $35 Manufacturing Fee and $35 Specialty Tag Annual Renewal Fee) but also the $20 sticker fee that you currently pay. The original purchase of your “Joanna Tag” is only $70 more than what you would normally pay.
The DMV also states that the Annual Renewal Fee is $55. Again, this amount includes not only the $35 Specialty Tag Annual Renewal Fee but also the $20 sticker fee that you currently pay.
The bottom line is that the annual renewal fee for your “Joanna tag” is only $35 more than you currently pay.
